My Favorite Photography Locations in Vermont
Below, I discuss some of my favorite photography locations in Vermont, particularly in and around the Chittenden County area, where I live. Whether you’re shooting family or senior portraits or aerial photography, sweeping vistas, gorgeous foliage, interesting architecture, and accessibility are key factors I consider when choosing places for my photography. It’s helpful when a location has varied scenery, so you can vary the look and feel of your photos all in one stop (i.e. being able to shoot the mountains in one direction, a beautiful tree scape in another, a fence or stone wall for posing in another, a rustic ide of a barn for a backdrop in another.). I will continue to update this post, and add others, as I can across more interesting spots. If you have ideas for places of your own that I haven’t mentioned, please leave a post below or e-mail me. Happy Shooting!
Oakledge Park is a popular destination for locals, and is bustling many times during the year, especially in the summer. Right on the water, it has gorgeous lake views perfect for your next Vermont photography backdrop. Tons of paths wind throughout, with tons of greenery, rocky areas, and beautiful weeping willows. It has public restrooms, which is convenient, especially when photographing little ones and is open sunrise to sunset.
Just off Dorset Street in South Burlington, VT, this continues to be one of my go to’s for Vermont photography. It is easy to access, open-year round, and open to the public, so no reservations are necessary. This continues to be a favorite of mine because of the plethora of options for scenery that it offers–fences, lush fields, beautiful mountain views, brick walls, gardens, flowers, and various foliage.
Shelburne Farms off of Shelburne Road is stunningly gorgeous. It’s 1,400 acre historic farmland is located on the homelands of the Winookik band of the Abenaki. It has rolling hills, barns, various plants, flowers, and foliage, fences, all elements for the perfect Vermont photography setting. It allows visitors and for portrait sessions, but does require a fee ($50 at the time of this post.)
The town of Winooski has some great options for photography. The circle in the center of town has a great stone wall that can add nice depth and texture to your photos, along with a great place for your subjects to perch. The nearby riverwalk has great potential with brick paths and bulidings the the roaring waters of the Winooski River
Originally a dairy farm in the 1980’s, it has now become a popular place for weddings and photographers. The restored English-style post and beam structures and the surround property give way to a beautiful and serene Vermont backdrop. It has been home to hundreds of weddings, and offers some great scenery, particularly in the fall.
